Our Communities Connected for Kids Program provides services for children and families in the child welfare system, to ensure a community without abuse, neglect and abandonment. Based out of Port Saint Lucie, FL, this position serves as a key leadership figure responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships between the organization and the community, stakeholders, partners, media, and public officials. This role is central to enhancing the organization’s visibility, promoting advocacy initiatives, and supporting strategic partnerships that advance the mission of protecting children and strengthening families across Florida’s Southeast region. This position requires the following essential job functions and professional skills:

 

  • Cultivates relationships with community leaders, faith-based organizations, civic groups, local businesses, and other key stakeholders.
  • Develops and implements outreach strategies to raise awareness of the organization’s programs and services.
  • Represents the organization at community events, forums, and local/state advisory groups.
  • Plans and coordinates special events to raise awareness on a variety of issues.
  • Manages the organization’s volunteer program.
  • Serves as spokesperson and media liaison, handling press inquiries and developing media content.
  • Coordinates public awareness campaigns and produce newsletters, press releases, annual reports, and promotional materials.
  • Collaborates with marketing and communications staff to ensure consistent messaging and brand visibility.
  • Advocates on behalf of child welfare issues and the organization’s mission at the local and state level.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with elected officials and policy influencers.
  • Monitors and reports on relevant policy developments and legislative actions.
  • Works closely with development staff to support donor relations and community fundraising initiatives.
  • Engages volunteers through meaningful experiences aligned with organizational needs and mission goals.
  • Partners with program and leadership teams to align external messaging with service delivery priorities.
  • Provides strategic counsel on community impact and stakeholder engagement to executive leadership

Qualifications

EDUCATION:


Required: Bachelor’s Degree in communications, public relations, marketing or a related field from an accredited college or university

Preferred: Master's Degree in communications, public relations, marketing or a related field from an accredited college or university

 

EXPERIENCE:


Required: A minimum of 5–7 years of experience in community relations, public affairs, or a similar leadership role in a nonprofit or child-serving organization. A minimum of two years of supervisory experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector. Demonstrated success in public speaking, media relations, and strategic communications. Excellent interpersonal, writing, and presentation skills.
Preferred: Knowledge of the child welfare system and community-based care model in Florida is highly preferred. Outreach experience in human services and a strong network within Southeast Florida's nonprofit, civic, and/or governmental sectors is a plus. Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Creole) is a strong asset.

* Must be able to travel throughout the Southeast Florida region.
* Some evening and weekend work may be required for community events or meetings.
